On January 4th the largest commercial fire in Santa Cruz History destroyed the office-furniture store behind us. It took twenty fire trucks and three million gallons of water to put out the blaze, but all surrounding structures were saved thanks to the heroic efforts of the Santa Cruz County Fire Department.
Unfortunately, all that water had to go somewhere, and the front doors of our showroom happen to be the lowest point in the parking lot. By 8am January 5th the showroom was 45% flooded with water, and we scrambled to move furniture to higher ground. Eventually, all the furniture had to be moved to storage, the carpet was a complete loss, and the bottom two feet of sheet rock wall had to be removed and replaced. We’ve been in the midst of our green remodel for the last many weeks, and we’ve made sure that every aspect of the remodel is as low impact on the environment as possible. Thanks to the good folks at Greenspace, our flooring and paints will all be earth friendly once again.
We had hoped to be re-open on February 1st, but if you’ve ever done a remodel yourselves you know how long the process can take. We now have a firm re-opening date – see article below - but in the meantime please be aware that our sales staff are still available most days by phone or e-mail to answer questions, guide you through on-line shopping, coordinate deliveries, and help resolve any issues you may have.
A big thanks to all our customers, vendors, and friends for your thoughtfulness, patience and kind words!
