When creating SC41 Furniture, I was reminded of the slogan, ‘think globally and act locally.’ We may be the first local business to be entirely green, from the inside out. Our building was renovated using low or no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) materials. Every time we make a decision to use eco-friendly products, not only is the planet benefiting, but we are making a healthy choice for ourselves."

Lori Hannum, Interior Design
Lori joined SC41 at its inception, bringing a strong background in environmental design and social causes to the business. She has worked locally on both residential and commercial projects which have earned certification through the Santa Cruz Green Building Program and has also worked on LEED Certified projects. She holds a degree in Interior Design with an emphasis on Sustainable and Aging-in-Place design. She has a passion for furniture design and does extensive research on each manufacturer selected for the SC41 showroom. Away from the store, Lori enjoys spending time with like-minded friends, family and her wonderful pets, Cass and Mimi.

Joel Barnes, Interior Design
Always creative and outgoing, Joel began studying interior design academically after many years of professional life in the high tech world. Having lived and studied in New York, Paris and the Bay Area, Joel owns his own interior design business and works with SC41 part time. "My focus is on creating joyous spaces for living in harmony within my clients' home & office environments. It is truly a pleasure to work at SC41 with furniture that is so gentle on the earth and aesthetically beautiful to the eye." When not working, Joel enjoys yoga and meditation, hiking, and playing volleyball on the beach.

Allison Miller, East Coast Interior Design Rep
Allison comes to SC41 with a strong passion for design and textiles. In addition to a BA in Studio Art from the University of Vermont, she has also studied at the Fashion institute of Technology and holds an Associate's Degree in Interior Design from West Valley College. When not selling fabulous furniture and mattresses she enjoys spending time with her husband, being outdoors, sewing and snow boarding.

Cat Glass, Office Manager
Cat has lived and worked in Santa Cruz County most of her life, which she believes is one of the most beautiful areas in the country and where living “Green” has become a way of life rather than just a phrase. When not at SC41, Cat is usually at the family ranch in Corralitos, where she raises horses, chickens, and organic fruits and vegetables. Through composting, recycling, selling and buying local, she tries to do her part in keeping small, local, businesses viable.

Chris New, Warehouse Manager
Chris has lived and worked in Santa Cruz County for the past 9 years. He attended Cabrillo College where he graduated with honors and received his AS in Fire Science. Chris is also a Nationally Registered EMT as well as active volunteer firefighter at Branciforte Fire Department. Chris has worked with Michael (the owner) for 4 years, originally on the showroom floor and now as our Warehouse and Delivery Manager. When not at work Chris enjoys nearly any outdoor activity, as well as spending time with family and his two rambunctious dogs.

Susan Guiver, Sales Associate
An East Coast native, Susan greatly appreciates the natural beauty, mild climate and simple lifestyle of the Monterey Bay Area. She is delighted to contribute to the health and beauty of our planet while offering green, stylish furnishings and clean, health-giving sleep systems. For almost ten years Susan assisted clients with their glass art and highly collectible paperweight collections; she has transitioned smoothly to assisting customers with their eco-friendly choices here at SC41. She loves spending time with her partner Greg and her very large family, practicing yoga, enjoying the outdoors, and cooking a delicious meal to enjoy with a glass of wine.

Erica Juell, Sales Associate
Erica hails from the little town of Nevada City up in California's Gold Country. Making her way to the big city, she earned a degree in interior design from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco. After working at two design firms in the city, Erica has followed her passion for beautiful furniture working first in Berkeley and then Santa Clara at two up-and-coming furniture stores. In a desire to return to her small-town roots, she recently moved to Scotts Valley and has begun exploring all that Santa Cruz has to offer. Erica told us she genuinely enjoys working one-on-one with people to find the perfect additions to their home environments, and loves helping to make their homes a real reflection of themselves. Another dog lover, Erica often takes her two Yorkies to the beach for a stroll. When she's not doing that, she enjoys hiking, biking and anything outdoors that involves spending time with friends and family.

Vicki Imperial, Sales Associate
Vicki comes to us with an extensive background in retail. In addition to her work managing the Macy's Monterey Furniture Gallery, Vicki spent more than 20 years working for several of the fine specialty & luxury stores in Carmel. Since moving to the Santa Cruz area, Vicki has begun pursuing her interest in environmentally conscious products with a focus on quality & customer service. What she likes so much about SC41 is the level of integrity behind all the products. "SC41 is not only environmentally conscious, but we sell products that are so well made they last for years to come. It's wonderful to work for an organization whose products you can really stand behind." Vicki loves spending time by the ocean which is easy since she lives just blocks from the beach in Capitola. Matt is a real hands-on kind of guy and a Santa Cruz native, "living the dream."
