This is the person who finishes your furniture. She signs it, too.

Most furniture arrives anonymous, off a container ship, built by no one you could name.

The piece in this photograph is different. It is being finished by hand on the floor at Gat Creek in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, with the founder standing right there pointing out the detail he wants right.

When it’s done, the craftsperson who built it signs it.

We think accountability like that is worth celebrating, so we’re putting it on sale. From June 22 to July 5, every American-made piece at SC41 is ten percent off our everyday honest price.

Look at what carries a name and an address.

  • Gat Creek’s solid Appalachian hardwood, cut within a day’s drive of the workshop.
  • Norwalk’s custom upholstery, sewn by its own employee-owners in Ohio since 1902.
  • Omnia’s top-grain leather from California.
  • Wesley Allen’s hand-welded iron beds from Los Angeles, their castings poured right over the frame.
  • Made-to-order solid wood from Stuart David, Simply Amish, and Vermont Furniture Designs, whose pieces are joined in unbroken lines of wood and built to last generations.
  • Live-edge tables from Stone River.
  • Upholstery from Rowe, Robin Bruce, and Stanton, the latter with a lifetime warranty on the frame.

Furniture made this way costs more to build and lasts far longer. A solid-wood dresser that serves three generations is, in the end, the least expensive one you can own.

Visit our Soquel showroom, sit down, and stay as long as you like.
